A nearly 30 year veteran of the Stafford County Sheriff's Office dies at Mary Washington Hospital this week.
Sheriff Ralph Williams retired from the force in 1999 after moving up through the ranks during a 28 year career in law enforcement. Officials say he suffered a lengthy illness before his death.
He is credited with initiating new technologies, state of the art investigative techniques and new volunteer programs within the Stafford Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Charles Jett calls Williams "an outstanding servant to the citizens of Stafford County who will be greatly missed."
