Sept. 11 'mastermind' to face Guantanamo judge

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - A military judge has set a date for resumption of the long-stalled prosecution of five Guantanamo prisoners accused of planning and aiding the Sept. 11 attacks.
Army Col. James Pohl ordered the five to appear before him on May 5 at the U.S. base in Cuba. The five include Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the attacks. All five face charges that include murder and terrorism and could get the death penalty if convicted. Judge Pohl's order was released Tuesday.
The five were arraigned in June 2008. But the case was put on hold after President Barack Obama's election. The president wanted the case transferred to civilian court but Congress blocked the move. Pretrial motions and hearings are likely to take at least a year.
