The weather situation is bad across the region and will get worse before the flakes stop flying around the early afternoon.
Most area schools, the Federal Government and U.S. Marine Corps Base Quantico made the decision to close on this St. Patrick's Day. VDOT says roads are in minor to moderate conditions across much of the region, but secondary roads are in severe condition. Its' crews are on 12 hour shifts, 24 hours a day. They are having to plow and re-plow to keep up with the still falling snow. The winter storm warning expires at 2:00 p.m., but the cold temperatures won't allow much melting. Another small sytem moves through tonight and temperatures drop into the low 20s. Some flurries and freezing drizzle is possible late tonight into early tomorrow morning too.
