If you're superstitious, it might pay off.
Researchers have discovered that people's concerns after tempting fate can be eliminated if they engage in a ritual like knocking on wood or throwing salt over their shoulder. Scientists say people think negative outcomes are especially likely after a jinx. And maybe it's all in our head, but the study proved that the acts seem to create the sense that the bad luck is being pushed away from you.
