On December 2, 2013 at 6:04pm, a male suspect walked into the Food Lion grocery store located at 7100 Salem Fields Blvd and approached several customers and employees. The suspect, later identified as Andre Jovon Jenkins, 30 of Woodbridge, produced a black pistol and demanded money from the registers. During the incident, one of the female employees was assaulted by Jenkins; however she did not suffer any serious injuries. The suspect, (Jenkins) took an undisclosed amount of money and left the store, entering his vehicle and departing in an unknown direction.
The Spotsylvania County Emergency Communications Center received the 911 call from store employees, who provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle. Approximately two minutes later, Spotsylvania Patrol Lieutenant S. Clem spotted the suspect vehicle, being driven by Jenkins, traveling on Plank Road, near the Spotsylvania Town Center Mall. Lt. Clem attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspect then sped up and attempted to elude the patrol cruiser. The suspect vehicle crossed traffic, trying to enter Central Park Shopping Center, and was involved in an accident with another motor vehicle. No injuries were reported in the accident. The suspect, (Jenkins), was taken into custody without further incident.
Detectives responded to the scene(s) and are proceeding with the investigation. Charges are currently pending against Jenkins.
