by Bill Dubensky posted Jul 11 2012 10:42AM
Stafford County authorities say an 18-year-old Spotsylvania resident drowned Tuesday evening in the Rappahannock River.
Stafford Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy says that just before 10 p.m last night six friends were jumping off a rock into the river just off Riverside Drive. He says one of the friends stayed on the rock, but when they turned to talk to their friend he wasn't there. The friends started to look for Brandon Wichert and called 9-1-1.
Divers located his body in eight-feet of water in the area where he was last seen.
Kennedy says people using the river need to be aware of the dangers of dead trees and deep water near the rocks.he adds a flotation device is key.
