Spotsylvania's School Safety Taskforce Already Meeting

by Deirdre Blake posted Dec 20 2012 8:23PM
In accordance with a verbal directive earlier this week, Governor Bob McDonnell issued Executive Order 56 Thursday. It establishes a task force to review school and campus safety, in light of the horrific Connecticut shootings.
Spotsylvania County Schools Spokeswoman Kathy Smith says they are pleased with the action. Already this week, they have created a local taskforce including the School Superintendent, Sheriff and County Administrator offices. She says they started meeting, with the goal of enhancing already strong security and improving communication in emergency situations.
Several Virginia lawmakers, including area Speaker Bill Howell has vowed to introduce legislation for more funding of school safety and security.
