Get ready for lots of cars on the roads as people head off for the holiday, but also for Spring Break. It's underway for most kids at area schools. If you child is headed off with their friends, make sure they know how to stay safe. Of course drinking under 21's illegal, but stress that hard liquor should absolutely be avoided. Safety tips and fun quizes are online at www.studentuniverse.com.
They and your are probably in need of the break, but parents need to make sure they stay on track. For kids, it's the jump off to summer, but make sure they don't try to coast through the rest of the school year. Let them have some fun, but talk about what they've got to do to be a success between now and June.
As for the fun you'll have if the week will be spent closer to home, be ready if camping is your thing. The weather makes it tricky this time of year, so bring a tarp and waterproof tent, a warm sleeping bag and a sleeping pad. Looking for a short overnight or day trip? The Science Museum of Richmond or any of the ones in DC are an option and most are free. Of course exploring Luray Caverns or Natural Bridge could be fun too. Looking for the water? The Chincoteague National Wildife Refuge is open year round and just outside you can learn about rockets at the NASA Visitor Center at the Wallops Flight Facility.
