Summer Travel Season Strains Local Blood Supply

by Deirdre Blake posted Jul 11 2013 5:46PM
Many regional blood donors that give on a regular basis often stop during the summer season and that can put a strain on local reserves. Tammy Berfield with the American Red Cross' local office on Southpoint Parkway says one pint can help save three lives. They can use all types of and especially O negative and positive and B and A negative.
You can donate every 45 days, but don't be sick and get ready in advance. Drink lots of water for a few days before, eat a healthy meal and get a good night's sleep the day before donation.
It takes as little as an hour to donate at the local office on Southpoint Parkway. Through July 15th, donors will be entered to win one of five $3,000 American Express gift cards.
