Take Precautions to Keep Your Home's Pipes from Bursting

One of the big problems with cold weather is the threat that the pipes in your house could burst.
Mike Tierney with Battlefield Homes in Fredericksburg says let the water drip about the size of a pencil at night when it's really cold, since moving water is harder to freeze. If the pipes have already frozen, gently heat them by using a lamp, hair dryer or portable space heater. When a pipe bursts, it's best to shut down the main water line completely.
