Some local snow removal companies tell us they've been stocked with salt over this cold snap and many stockpiles are dwindling. So why isn't it helping more?
Mother Nature's harsh temperatures are to blame. Salt doesn't work well under 15 degrees. VDOT's highly concentrated salt and water solution does a little better below freezing though. Treating around your house, consider adding a calcium chloride mix to what you spread.
