An IRS scam has come to a local resident, so be careful.
The caller gave a badge number, apparently sounded very official, and says the IRS is filing suit against them for back taxes. Of course, the call was bogus and the IRS always makes that kind of contact by mail.
If you still don't have you 2014 W2's or 10-99, check your mailbox over the next couple days. Employers have until Saturday to get them to you. Once that day comes and goes and you still don't have them, contact the folks you work for. They might have been swiped from your mailbox already, putting you more at risk for identity theft.

It doesn't matter if you're throwing a slab of ribs on the grill, cooking chili in a crockpot or just making some mayonaise-based potato salad for game day, make sure what you serve is safe.
Elaine Lidholm with the Virginia Department of Agriculture says just because it's cold outside, it's still warm inside your house. Use a cold water bath or ice for shrimp bowls and other perishable items. You should try to eat hot food when it comes off the grill and out of the oven, or at least when it's still hot. If you have to wait, keep sterno lit under you hot stuff.

Sometimes you get in trouble for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but for some folks in Stafford and King George that was just by being at home.
The county sheriffs' offices say they are trying to find out who shot into occupied houses on White Oak and Caledon Roads this week. Six homes were affected in the wee hours of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
