Trial To Begin for Bus Driver in Fatal Crash

A trial is set for the driver of an interstate bus that crashed in Virginia, killing four passengers and injuring dozens more.

Kin Yiu Cheung is scheduled for trial today in Caroline County Circuit Court on four felony counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Court records show Cheung admitted to police that he fell asleep at the wheel when the low-fare Sky Express bus from Greensboro, N.C., to New York swerved off Interstate 95 near the Carmel Church exit, hit an embankment and overturned in May 2011.

He faces up to 10 years in prison for each count if convicted. Cheung has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors last week dropped charges against the bus dispatcher after questions arose about Cheung's claim he was told to keep driving although he was too tired.
