A 22-year-old Manassas woman was struck and killed by a VRE train early Wednesday near the Burke Centre station in Fairfax.
At about 7 a.m. when the train rounded a curve in the fog, the engineer saw Danyelle Lynn Anderson walking across the tracks. He immediately applied the brakes and sounded the horn. The train slowed, but hit the woman.
The death has been ruled accidental.
The incident closed the railroad for several hours and canceled two Manassas VRE trains.
VRE plans to run full service for the evening commute, but Train 331 departing Union Station at 5:05 p.m. will operate with six cars instead of eight.
