Work to replace the 1950's era Fall Hill Avenue bridge over the Rappahannock Canal gets underway in a few months, affecting your drive around town for a while.
The work will close the area at the bridge construction site. So how do you get past it from the city? Fredericksburg Public Works Manager Doug Fawcett says you can take Route 1 south past James Monroe High School to a right on Cowan Boulevard. Travel all the way down and make a right on Carl D. Silver Parkway, in Central Park. When you get to the traffic light, make a right back onto Fall Hill Avenue to reach businesses and homes west of the construction area.
The nearly $3 million bridge will be in the same location, but taller. There will also be a walking path below.
