TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) - Libya's oil minister says production is nearly back to its pre-war levels. It's now at 1.5 million barrels a day.
Abdulrahman Ben Yezza says Libya could start pumping about 1.6 million barrels a day by midyear. That's what Libya produced before the eight-month conflict to oust dictator Moammar Gadhafi. That brought production to a halt. Gadhafi was captured and killed last October.
Current output is about 100,000 barrels a day higher than February's production.
Libya is hosting an oil and gas exhibition that has attracted an American delegation, with representatives of 20 U.S. companies and organizations, including Boeing, ExxonMobil and General Electric.
Ben Yezza said Monday the new Libyan regime wants to attract international investors to improve its lucrative oil and gas sectors.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Two men from China who have been held without charge at the Guantanamo Bay prison for nearly a decade have been released in El Salvador.
The Pentagon and a lawyer for one of them men say the government of El Salvador agreed to allow them to settle in the Central American country. They are ethnic Uighurs from western China.
Uighurs have waged a separatist campaign in China, but the U.S. determined they pose no threat and should not be held at Guantanamo. Resettling them has been difficult because China pressured countries around the world not to accept them. The Pentagon said Thursday that the men's release brings the Guantanamo prison population to 169. Attorney Susan Baker Manning says both men are happy in their new home.

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) - The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court says the Libya has evidence linking a son of deposed ruler Moammar Gadhafi to recruiting mercenaries and executing people.
Luis Moreno-Ocampo told The Associated Press Thursday Libyan prosecutors have evidence backing the court's reports that Seif al-Islam Gadhafi supervised and helped bring in foreign mercenaries, as well as evidence linking him to executions.
He said the Libyan government has until the end of April to present its case to the court to push for its demand to try him.
He was captured last year in Libya after a civil war that toppled the Gadhafi regime. The international court wants to try Gadhafi's son and has asked the Libyan authorities to surrender him.
Libya says it will challenge the court's jurisdiction.

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Authorities in Mexico have raised the alert level for the Popocatepetl volcano southeast of Mexico City due to increasing activity. It's now at the fifth step on a seven-level warning scale.
The National Disaster Prevention Center says a lava dome is growing in the volcano's crater. The 17,886-foot (5,450-meter) volcano also has been spewing fragments of incandescent rock recently, as well as water vapor and ash.
The center said in a statement late Monday the volcano could experience "significant explosions of growing intensity that hurl incandescent rocks significant distances," large ash showers and possible flows of mud and molten rocks down the volcano's flanks.
The alert is now at the highest level of the yellow stage; the next stage is a red alert, in which evacuations would presumably begin.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says tanks shelled the southern town of Busra al-Harir on Tuesday, killing two people.
The group also says shelling resumed in the central city of Homs, where the Khaldiyeh neighborhood was targeted.
Homs has been under continuous attack with only a brief respite on Thursday - the day the cease-fire formally took effect.
The truce is part of a plan by special envoy Kofi Annan to end the Syrian government's crackdown on a 13-month uprising and launch talks on the country's political future. Escalating violations have dimmed already low expectations the truce would hold.

A High Court judge ruled last week that the protesters must be removed soon to allow builders to work on the site.
The protesters, some belonging to the Occupy London movement, have set up a camp and blocked building work there because they fear that construction will close off the green space to the public.
But the Olympic Delivery Authority has insisted the basketball training facility is a temporary structure that will be dismantled after the games, which take place from July 27-Aug. 12.

According to Commander Amy Derrick-Frost of the 5th Fleet, based in Bahrain, the deployment of the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along with the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group marks one of the few times the Navy has had two aircraft carriers operating in waters near the Persian Gulf.
She says the deployment of a second carrier is "routine and not specific to any threat." She didn't say how long the Navy will keep the increased military presence in the region.
The ships will support U.S. military operations in Afghanistan and anti-piracy efforts.
They'll also patrol the strategic Gulf oil routes that Iran has threatened to shut down in retaliation for economic sanctions over its nuclear program.

BEIRUT (AP) - Although a Syrian official says government troops have begun pulling back from some of the country's less-restive cities, a week ahead of a deadline, the claim can't yet be verified.
And activists near the capital Damascus are denying that troops are leaving their area. They say the day regime forces leave the streets, Syria will see massive protests that will overthrow the government.
In recent days, Syrian President Bashar Assad agreed to an April 10 deadline to implement the truce plan from international envoy Kofi Annan. It requires government forces to pull out of towns and cities and observe a cease-fire. Rebel fighters are supposed to immediately follow by ending violence.
Earlier today, opposition activists charged that the regime is trying to crush opponents ahead of the cease-fire deadline by carrying out intense raids, arrests and shelling.

Despite his close ties to his one-time professor, Pope Benedict XVI, Schoenborn has voiced an open mind to such taboo issues as priestly celibacy.
