ENSENADA, Mexico (AP) - The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a sailor who disappeared after a racing yacht he was in apparently collided with a larger ship.

Petty Officer 1st Class Allyson Conroy said the search was called off at 4:15 p.m. Sunday after 28 hours of scouring the waters off the shore of Southern California and Mexico.

The sailor was among four crewmembers of the Aegean, a 37-foot boat that was taking part in a 124-mile race that began Friday from Newport Beach, Calif. to Ensenada, Mexico.

The sailboat was reported missing Saturday, and other yachts reported seeing debris near the Coronado Islands in Mexico. Three bodies have been recovered.
