Hike With A Rescue Dog
September 8 @ 7:45 am - 10:00 am
FreePUBLIC IS INVITED TO HIKE WITH A RESCUE DOG AND OLD DOMINION HUMANE SOCIETY’S VOLUNTEERS ON SUNDAY MORNINGS
WHO: Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) hosts hikes with its resident rescue dogs led by knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers, and the public (adults and children) is invited to join in on the fun and exercise for both humans and four-legged friends.
WHAT: The community is invited to participate in the hikes—you don’t need to be an ODHS volunteer. Volunteers will pair the dog with the hiker and lead the group on the trails.
WHERE: Hikers meet at the ODHS center at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Hikers can wait at the door for volunteers to bring the dogs out. The ODHS volunteers will lead the caravan to one of the trails located a short drive away. Hikers must be able to transport the dog in their car.
No experience is necessary to go on the hikes, and the age to walk dogs is 16 and up. The dogs at ODHS range from puppies to adults to seniors, and there’s always a perfect match for all hikers.
WHEN: The hikes occur every Sunday at 7:45 a.m. (the early morning hour is to ensure the dogs and humans are out at the coolest time of the day) on Sundays.
ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Adoption events are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m., Fridays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-4 p.m. Applications in advance are preferred and take priority over walk-ins.
