Junior Horsemanship 101

You’re invited to join the introductory Central Virginia Horse Rescue Junior Horsemanship 101 clinic! Does your child have an interest in horses but you don’t know where to start? The CVHR Junior Horsemanship 101 clinic will provide all of the basic information that your child should know before starting their journey as an equestrian.

Things that your child can expect to learn during the clinic:

Basic horse handling
Parts of a the horse
Common horse colors
Common horse breeds
General grooming tools and their use
Horse show preparation

The CVHR Junior Horsemanship 101 Clinic is open to children 8 through 16 years of age.

Carolyn started riding and showing Hunters at the age of five at Hazelwild Farm under the tutelage of Fredericksburg’s own Elizabeth Morrison. At twelve her parents bought her first children’s hunter. She competed locally and on the A circuit as a teenager. During college summers she worked as a camp riding instructor at Hazelwild Farm, and continued her passion for equine education as the director of summer camps for K&L Sports in Montpelier, Va. As an adult, Carolyn has successfully shown her Dutch warmblood Wall Street News and in 1997 she became a professional starting her training career at Still Meadows Farm in Mechanicsville, Virginia and continuing through the years training as an independent contractor at several barns. Through the years she was lucky enough to work, ride for and clinic with many wonderful professionals including George Morris, Robert Crandall, and Teddy Ismond to name a few. In 2009, she started working for Woodside Equine Clinic which became an invaluable medical learning resource for her which rounded out her equine experience. In 2013 she opened her own boarding and training facility, Watermark Farm specializing in show Hunters in Beaverdam, Virginia.
