I Want My “Me Time”
If you’ve got a toddler running around at home, chances are your free time is pretty much non-existent. A recent study revealed that parents with children aged six and under only manage to snag about 31 minutes of “me time” each day on average. And for some, it’s even worse—one in seven parents admitted it feels like they get zero personal time.
Even when those rare moments of quiet do come, truly unwinding is easier said than done. A staggering 96% of parents feel like they’re always “on call,” making relaxation almost impossible.
So, how do parents with young kids actually spend their day? Here’s the breakdown:
- For working parents:
- 9 hours at work or commuting
- 4 hours getting the kids ready or assisting them
- 2 hours driving them around
- 2 hours on chores and cooking
- 1 hour handling miscellaneous tasks
That leaves just about 6 hours for sleep.
- For stay-at-home parents:
- 9 hours caring for the kids
- 4 hours tackling household chores
- 2 hours driving them to activities or appointments
- 2 hours on other tasks
This setup leaves roughly 7 hours for sleep.
Whether you’re working or at home, it’s clear that parenting is a round-the-clock commitment with little time left over for personal care.
