Ugh it’s Pothole Season…

It’s that time of year when you’re driving along minding your own business and bam…you hit an awful pothole.  You can only hope you don’t get a flat.

According to VDOT, potholes are created when moisture seeps into the pavement, freezes, expands and then thaws. This weakens the pavement. Traffic loosens it even more, and it eventually crumbles and pops out.  Spring is 27 days away.  The warm temperatures, cold pavement, melting and evaporating ice creates air pockets that can eventually cause the pavement to break up. A winter of heavy snow or rain and several freeze-thaw cycles can mean a big pothole season ahead.

Help hunt the potholes so they can be fixed.  You can report them here or call 800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).
